| Meike Holzmann
first started making music with the Glockenspiel at the early age of four
during early years music lessons.
While being classically trained
on the piano for many years, she also took a few trumpet and double bass
lessons, sang in the school choir and was generally keen on making noises.
Soon she started to make
up her own little tunes and began to teach herself any musical instrument
she could get her hands on.
Her experiences as a musical performer include keyboards, percussions
and backing vocals for German newcomer award winning German band RICH,
NICE $ FABULOUS, playing bass in a number of blues and pop groups, as
well as singing backing vocals in soul and rock bands.
Meike also spent five years
with the ABKLATSCHTHEATER in Aschaffenburg, impersonating around 50 different
characters in five eye watering comedy productions.
In 1998 Meike came to Liverpool to study Performing Arts/Music @ LIPA
, where she most enjoyed the songwriting and composition classes. This
was made possible only by the sponsorship of DEUTSCHE PHONO AKADEMIE (Hamburg),
and Josef Keller Verlag (Starnberg/Munich) who issues "Der Musikmarkt".
In her final year @ LIPA Meike specialized in composition and arrangement
for moving images and started working internationally with independent
film makers and dance companies.
Since receiving her degree (BA hons) in Performing Arts (Music) in July
2001 she has been writing, performing, arranging and producing music for
film, dance, theatre and multimedia from her Mac/logic based home studio
in Liverpool/UK as well as steadily writing songs, by herself as well
in collaboration within established co-writing partnerships.
She's also been performing
and recording keys, percussions, bass, guitar, blues harpand backing vocals
for SONNENBERG (album out on Rough Trade).
In the last few years Meike's been writing, recording and playing live
with THE
PHENOMENOLOGISTS and, on rare occasions, also performing her own songs
with the FLYING
BINGO WINGS in Germany.
Meike has also been involved in educational and community work in Liverpool
and Germany - after training with MUSIC LEADER North West and Creative
Partnerships during 2007 as a Creative Practitioner, she worked as a Performing
Arts Animateur at Malbank
School and Sixth Form College in Nantwich, Cheshire, has been a vocal
and stage coach for LIPA students, as well as teaching piano in Liverpool
and running MICA MUSIC,
delivering music workshops in a variety of settings and providing demo
services to singer/songwriters.
In 2009 the LONESOME
GEORGINAS were born, giving their live debut on St Patricks day and
continue to perform as an acoustic trio around Liverpool and the North
of England. They produced a CD with six of their catchy tunes, which is
only available at live gigs - and they are already working on their next
recordings.
